Adoption numbers in this space vary a lot depending on who's reporting them and how "companionship" is defined, so we'd treat any single statistic with some caution. That said, multiple recent surveys point the same direction: a meaningful share of younger adults, particularly in the 18–34 range, say they've tried an AI companion or chatbot for company at least once.
